Calling all sweet tooths: It’s hard to believe, but it’s already been a year since Powell’s Sweet Shoppe became the first tenant of Theatre Square downtown. And what better way to celebrate than a candy-filled day of contests, giveaways and general merriment? On Saturday, March 1, Powell’s owners Will and Monika Bomar will throw a big bash at his “shoppe” featuring a cotton candy-eating contest, free Wonka Bars and a chance to meet “Mike Tee-Vee,” one of the stars of the original “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” (played by Paris Themmen in the 1971 film). He’ll be giving out autographed photos as well as a lunch date, which will be one of the raffle prizes. Attendees can also enter for a chance to win free candy or gelato for a year, or a VIP tour of the Jelly Belly plant. The fun begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the cotton candy-eating contest set for 1:30 p.m. Need info? Call the shop at 765-YUMM.california
